Furthering our safety engineering work with several key clients, our team proposed a new design for static furnace metal tapping mechanisms. Traditionally, when a cast ends abnormally, an operator is forced to use a manual plug to stop the flow of metal. If the cast ends in the early phase, this stoppage can be against a high level of metal and has a risk of causing operator injury. Our team’s new design is split into two distinct areas: control and abort. The control arm is a proven Precimeter device, specially engineered actuator arm providing highly accurate (+/- 2mm) control of metal throughout cast. Using dedicated safety protocols, a second plugging arm can be activated to stop the flow of metal without the need for operator intervention.
