Installation work has recently been completed and commissioning is underway on a 20M automated plate saw for Arconic Kitts Green in Birmingham, with initial cutting trials being undertaken in the last few weeks.
The automated plate saw has been refurbished and extensively upgraded with a new control system, extraction system and acoustic booth being installed as part of turn-key works that began in December 2015. The 20M automated plate saw will form the final part in the foundry process line, where aluminium alloy plate is cut to size for a wide range of end users in the aerospace, defense and general engineering markets.
The saw is the latest in a number of projects completed at Kitts Green in the past two years as part of major investment works at the local site. This is the first time Mechatherm have provided this type of equipment and it represents further diversification of the company’s product portfolio of furnaces and casthouse equipment, with the company actively looking to provide customers with bespoke turn-key engineering solutions and follow up after sales through the dedicated Services and Spares division – Mechatherm Services.
